I was enjoying some Direct TV music channels tonight when the song "Let It Be Me" came on the classic country channel. Hey, growing up on the farm, before The Beatles, there were Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Webb Pierce, Cowboy Copas (..."I'm goin' back to Alabam"), Jim Reeves, and Porter Waggoner (among others). anyway, I listened to the Willie Nelson version and thought, damn, I have heard that song before...but where? It seems that the Everly Brothers did it, Elvis and Bob Dylan covered it. Wow, that's a hell of a legacy there...Elvis AND Dylan?

The End of The World As We Know It...

This is a picture of the person who holds down the number one position on the Top 100 album chart. That's right, it is a greastest hits package from Hillary Duff. Hillary Duff? The girl from "Cheaper By The Dozen?'. Hell, I didn't even know that she had ANY CDs out. Oh, come to find out that she only has two albums. Two? and she gets the greatest hits treatment? What's next..the best of Ashlee Simpson? I was pretty sure pop music passed me by when Milli Vanilli hit the top of the charts..it is now been confirmed.

Shooting Star

The first time I saw them was the "End of the Decade" Show at Memorial Hall on 12/31/1979. I became a fan very quickly. Billboard Magazine ("freakin Billboard magazine"!!!) said that this was "the best debut by an American Band since Boston" since Boston?? You bet. I talked to Van The other day, Steve Thomas is one of my favorite people, Bill Guffey is...well, Bill Guffey, Mr. Verlin IS the man, Keith Mitchell filled big shoes with the departure of Gary West, and I think that these guys were another band that never got their due. Huge in K.C., St.Louis (it was KWK that played them), Denver, Philadelphia, Chicago and various places around, they were prone to horrible luck when it came to record companies. So,with that in mind, some of my fave SS tunes are:

And what did the pres do before he ran for governor of Texas?...oh, yeah, he was an oil man, Cheney, too. Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da..life goes on..

Today's log Stardate 8242005

Today, I find myself in Madison Wisconsin. I am proud to say that the company I work for (Learfield Comunications) now carries the sports programming for 3 of the top 10 party schools in America. Thank you, thank you very much. I happen to like Madison a lot. Good radio here...the "Jack" station, (Charley@105.1) does it very well, and it is very eighties based (in laymans terms, they lay a lot of music from the eighties). I did hear in Madison what I thought was the segue from hell..."Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town, by Kenny Rogers into "Don't You Want Me Baby" by the Human League. Brutal. I am in Milwaukee again tomorrow and in Reedsburg WI, along with Dubuque and others on Friday.

Chicago Skyway

For some reason,thoughout my life, I have had bad dreams about driving in the air and on the water. Weird stuff where I always DIE! I do not like crossing on this road. It is a mile in the air and it goes on forever (not really) but it gives me the willies. To top it all off , I have to pay THEM to drive on it.

...and not a Christian. I hate political discussions because anymore, there is no common ground. Either we must disagree completely or agree completely. Pat Robertson (supposed Christian) has called for the killing of another person. Pro life only when its convenient? Idiot and hypocrite.

Sunday Afternoon Sports

I have a ton of stuff I have to do. Work in the yard, in the office, in the basement. But here I sit in the office, watching the Bird-Magic weekend on ESPN classic. Before Micheal, before Shaq, it was Bird, Magic, Parrish, Worthy, McHale, McAdoo, Ainge, etc. etc. I was watching game 4 of the 1984 championships that went into overtime. It makes me realize how good these guys were. A made midrange jumpshot is so beautiful, especially if it is a bank shot. Just like Mr. Wooden teaches. If that isn't enough, the Cardinals are on Tv later, and if that is not enough, the Little league World Series is on. The team from Davenport, Ia. is in the tournament. Davenport is the big daddy of the Quad Cities. The team has already lost one game, and for some reason, any team that is entered in a national deal from the Quad Cities is doomed. I will keep you informed how it turns out. That would be very cool if they did well. Good luck to them! ..(there's the kiss of death...)
It really wasn't my day...Davenport lost big time, the Cardinals lost, and the Celtics lost the game I was watching. Don't ask me to root for your team.
